KARINA CHECHIK

Biography

Karina Chechik (Buenos Aires, 1966). She received a Professor of Painting degree from the National School of Fine Arts Prilidiano Pueyrredon, in Buenos Aires (1989). In 1995, she moved to Miami, where she lived until 2007. She currently lives in Buenos Aires and often travels to Europe and the United States.

Chechik has exhibited in museums, galleries, universities, and international art fairs in the United States, Latin America and Europe, including the Jorge Luis Borges Foundation, Buenos Aires,(1998); Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, Miami, (2002); The Museum of Hispanic Art Enrique Larreta, Buenos Aires, (2004);  Antonio de Barnola Gallery, Barcelona, (2005); Silkeborg Bad Art Centre, Denmark (2006); San Lorenzo Gallery, Milan (2007);  Palazzo Pretorio, Padova, Italy (2007); UBS Bank Gallery, Lugano, Switzerland (2008) , La Contemporanea Gallery, Turin (2009); Michetti Foundation, Italy (2013);  Young Masters Art Prize London (2012/2013), Palazzo Pretorio, Certaldo, Italy (2015); Untitled Art fair, Miami (2016); Espacio Cruz Bajo, Madrid ( 2017); Plataforma Argentina at Pinta Art Fair, Miami (2017) ; Art Nexus Foundation, Bogotá (2018); ICANA Instituto Cultural Argentino Norteamericano, Buenos Aires (2018); MARQ Museo de Arquitectura y Diseño, Buenos Aires (2018).

During 2018 Karina Chechik has created a large site specific installation and show: The Vertical Labyrinth, an homage to Jorge Luis Borges and Franco Maria Ricci, at Marq, Architecture and Design Museum, Buenos Aires. She also did Promised Land at ICANA , Institute of Argentine and North American Culture, Buenos Aires.

Her series, Architectures of Light, was conceived as a traveling exhibition to be presented in international museums and cultural centers around the world. It has been shown at  Museo Catedral de La Plata, Argentina (May-June, 2011); Museo del Design, Torino, Italy (November 2011-January 2012); Instituto Nazionale di Studi Romani, Rome (April 2012); and  Museo Judío de Buenos Aires, (November 2012 to March 2013); and the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU, Miami (January-April 2014). 

In 2003 she has been invited by Ediciones Poligrafa, to produce in Barcelona a series of lithographies. The artworks published by this editorial house were exhibited in the main art fairs like ARCO Madrid, Art Basel and Art Basel Miami.   

 

Karina Chechik’s art and shows have been reviewed by prestigious international specialized publications. Among them are Art Nexus, Arte al Dia, Art in America, Art Papers, Miami New Times, The Miami Herald, La Nación and La Prensa from Buenos Aires and the Italian La Stampa, Arte and Arte In.
